The timer expires on July 18, 2006. This case updates and replaces 2006/145. The interfaces defined in 2006/145 have not shipped. The changes are relatively minor: - Increase CWQ entry size to 128 bytes - Add more detailed error info to both queue entries - Adds a new API: NCS_SETHEAD_MARKER (function# 0x117) And some other minor changes. You can diff the files with the old case to see all the differences. Or see them here with this webrev: http://esp.west/~ep32863/projects/crypto/niagara2/arc/ncs-hv-api/ which is not part of the case materials. The interface table is at the end of the document, which is in the materials directory. The project seeks a minor/micro binding of the firmware and a patch/micro/minor binding of the OS for the OS components. The trap registry will be updated upon approval. -David From sacadmin Wed Jul 12 15:06:15 2006 Received: from sunmail2.sfbay.sun.com (sunmail2.SFBay.Sun.COM [129.149.246.180]) by sac.sfbay.sun.com (8.13.6+Sun/8.13.6) with ESMTP id k6CM6FDV018630 for ; Wed, 12 Jul 2006 15:06:15 -0700 (PDT) Received: from brm-avmta-1.central.sun.com (brm-avmta-1.Central.Sun.COM [129.147.4.11]) by sunmail2.sfbay.sun.com (8.11.7p1+Sun/8.11.7/ENSMAIL,v2.2) with ESMTP id k6CM6E417916; Wed, 12 Jul 2006 15:06:14 -0700 (PDT) Received: from pmxchannel-daemon.brm-avmta-1.central.sun.com by brm-avmta-1.central.sun.com (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2-3.04 (built Jul 15 2005)) id <0J2B007039ECPW00@brm-avmta-1.central.sun.com>; Wed, 12 Jul 2006 16:06:12 -0600 (MDT) Received: from nwkea-pix-1.sun.com ([10.4.134.6]) by brm-avmta-1.central.sun.com (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2-3.04 (built Jul 15 2005)) with ESMTP id <0J2B005V29EB8G30@brm-avmta-1.central.sun.com>; Wed, 12 Jul 2006 16:06:11 -0600 (MDT) Received: from d1-sfbay-10.sun.com ([192.18.39.120]) by nwkea-pix-1.sun.com (8.13.6+Sun/8.12.9) with ESMTP id k6CM6BTR027281; Wed, 12 Jul 2006 15:06:11 -0700 (PDT) Received: from conversion-daemon.d1-sfbay-10.sun.com by d1-sfbay-10.sun.com (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2-4.02 (built Sep 9 2005)) id <0J2B001019E78S00@d1-sfbay-10.sun.com> (original mail from Eric.Pilmore@Sun.COM); Wed, 12 Jul 2006 15:06:11 -0700 (PDT) Received: from [129.153.85.46] by d1-sfbay-10.sun.com (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2-4.02 (built Sep 9 2005)) with ESMTPSA id <0J2B00GPP9EASE60@d1-sfbay-10.sun.com>; Wed, 12 Jul 2006 15:06:11 -0700 (PDT) Date: Wed, 12 Jul 2006 15:06:10 -0700 From: Eric Pilmore Subject: Re: FWARC/2006/425 NCS HV API Update 2 In-reply-to: <44B44545.6090504@sun.com> Sender: Eric.Pilmore@Sun.COM To: David Kahn Cc: FWARC , Greg Onufer Message-id: <44B57252.8080108@sun.com> MIME-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset=us-ascii Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT X-Accept-Language: en-us, en X-PMX-Version: 5.2.0.264296 References: <44B44545.6090504@sun.com> User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; SunOS sun4u; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20050530 Status: RO Content-Length: 1430 Hi David, For the Niagara-2-only device node will the name value of "crypto" dictate that the actual driver have that name also? The "name" propval should be a generic name. "crypto" is as good as any. The driver binding should be in the "compatible" property and should have "SUNW," prefix in the name. The OS framework looks at the entries in "compatible" first (there can be more than one string in "compatible") in order from first string to last string to find a driver for the device, typically using /etc/driver_aliases so the driver name can be n2cp with an entry in /etc/driver_aliases so that SUNW,n2crypto (or whatever we publish in 'compatible') binds to the driver of your choice. If you use different compatible names there, you can always use separate drivers later, even if you are using the same driver now. If you use the same compatible string now, you can never separate the drivers later. compatible: SUNW,n2crypto Didn't we include 'compatible' in the bindings? -David From sacadmin Wed Jul 12 15:35:00 2006 Received: from sunmail3.sfbay.sun.com (sunmail3.SFBay.Sun.COM [129.149.247.180]) by sac.sfbay.sun.com (8.13.6+Sun/8.13.6) with ESMTP id k6CMZ0Nf019677 for ; Wed, 12 Jul 2006 15:35:00 -0700 (PDT) Received: from nwk-avmta-1.SFBay.Sun.COM (nwk-avmta-1.SFBay.Sun.COM [129.149.246.28]) by sunmail3.sfbay.sun.com (8.11.7p1+Sun/8.11.7/ENSMAIL,v2.2) with ESMTP id k6CMYxU21567; Wed, 12 Jul 2006 15:34:59 -0700 (PDT) Received: from pmxchannel-daemon.nwk-avmta-1.sfbay.Sun.COM by nwk-avmta-1.sfbay.Sun.COM (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2 (built Dec 2 2004)) id <0J2B00L01AQACW00@nwk-avmta-1.sfbay.Sun.COM>; Wed, 12 Jul 2006 15:34:58 -0700 (PDT) Received: from nwkea-pix-1.sun.com ([10.4.134.6]) by nwk-avmta-1.sfbay.Sun.COM (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2 (built Dec 2 2004)) with ESMTP id <0J2B00KKPAQA6TE0@nwk-avmta-1.sfbay.Sun.COM>; Wed, 12 Jul 2006 15:34:58 -0700 (PDT) Received: from d1-sfbay-06.sun.com ([192.18.39.116]) by nwkea-pix-1.sun.com (8.13.6+Sun/8.12.9) with ESMTP id k6CMYvc5005437; Wed, 12 Jul 2006 15:34:57 -0700 (PDT) Received: from conversion-daemon.d1-sfbay-06.sun.com by d1-sfbay-06.sun.com (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2-4.02 (built Sep 9 2005)) id <0J2B00201AOK4A00@d1-sfbay-06.sun.com> (original mail from Eric.Pilmore@Sun.COM); Wed, 12 Jul 2006 15:34:57 -0700 (PDT) Received: from [129.153.85.46] by d1-sfbay-06.sun.com (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2-4.02 (built Sep 9 2005)) with ESMTPSA id <0J2B000PVAQ9C710@d1-sfbay-06.sun.com>; Wed, 12 Jul 2006 15:34:57 -0700 (PDT) Date: Wed, 12 Jul 2006 15:34:56 -0700 From: Eric Pilmore Subject: Re: FWARC/2006/425 NCS HV API Update 2 In-reply-to: <44B576DD.101@sun.com> Sender: Eric.Pilmore@Sun.COM To: David Kahn Cc: FWARC , Greg Onufer Message-id: <44B57910.5080006@sun.com> MIME-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset=us-ascii Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT X-Accept-Language: en-us, en X-PMX-Version: 5.2.0.264296 References: <44B44545.6090504@sun.com> <44B57252.8080108@sun.com> <44B576DD.101@sun.com> User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; SunOS sun4u; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20050530 Status: RO Content-Length: 1752 David Kahn wrote On 07/12/06 15:25,: > > > Eric Pilmore wrote: > >> Hi David, >> >> For the Niagara-2-only device node will the name value of >> "crypto" dictate that the actual driver have that name also? >> The driver name is currently "n2cp" and I have no plans (nor >> desire) to change it. I guess I was simply hoping to get away from > being forced to install an entry /etc/driver_aliases. > Oh well. Yes, it will fall back to using the "name" propval, which is there for when we added "compatible" support years ago. (Devices with non-generic names still work.) but don't do that, because anybody using the generic name "crypto" might get your driver. (Imagine that the hw is installed first, before the software is added, so even if they have a compatible binding, it's not been added yet.) While it seems that might be convenient for you, don't do it, since it hurts everybody else. You wouldn't appreciate it if somebody already used the name "crypto" as a driver binding, would you? Add the entries to driver_aliases. If your driver is in ON, you just add them to the source file in ON. If it's unbundled, just use options to add_drv(1M) to add them. If you already shipped like this, then it might create a flag day. -David From sacadmin Wed Jul 12 16:09:31 2006 Received: from sunmail3.sfbay.sun.com (sunmail3.SFBay.Sun.COM [129.149.247.180]) by sac.sfbay.sun.com (8.13.6+Sun/8.13.6) with ESMTP id k6CN9VM9021482 for ; Wed, 12 Jul 2006 16:09:31 -0700 (PDT) Received: from brm-avmta-1.central.sun.com (brm-avmta-1.Central.Sun.COM [129.147.4.11]) by sunmail3.sfbay.sun.com (8.11.7p1+Sun/8.11.7/ENSMAIL,v2.2) with ESMTP id k6CN9UU29802; Wed, 12 Jul 2006 16:09:30 -0700 (PDT) Received: from pmxchannel-daemon.brm-avmta-1.central.sun.com by brm-avmta-1.central.sun.com (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2-3.04 (built Jul 15 2005)) id <0J2B00A01CBTVK00@brm-avmta-1.central.sun.com>; Wed, 12 Jul 2006 17:09:29 -0600 (MDT) Received: from nwkea-pix-1.sun.com ([10.4.134.6]) by brm-avmta-1.central.sun.com (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2-3.04 (built Jul 15 2005)) with ESMTP id <0J2B0050ECBS8I80@brm-avmta-1.central.sun.com>; Wed, 12 Jul 2006 17:09:29 -0600 (MDT) Received: from d1-sfbay-01.sun.com ([192.18.39.111]) by nwkea-pix-1.sun.com (8.13.6+Sun/8.12.9) with ESMTP id k6CN9SO2015102; Wed, 12 Jul 2006 16:09:28 -0700 (PDT) Received: from conversion-daemon.d1-sfbay-01.sun.com by d1-sfbay-01.sun.com (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2-4.02 (built Sep 9 2005)) id <0J2B00C01BPBK100@d1-sfbay-01.sun.com> (original mail from Eric.Pilmore@Sun.COM); Wed, 12 Jul 2006 16:09:28 -0700 (PDT) Received: from [129.153.85.46] by d1-sfbay-01.sun.com (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2-4.02 (built Sep 9 2005)) with ESMTPSA id <0J2B007O1CBSMC20@d1-sfbay-01.sun.com>; Wed, 12 Jul 2006 16:09:28 -0700 (PDT) Date: Wed, 12 Jul 2006 16:09:28 -0700 From: Eric Pilmore Subject: Re: FWARC/2006/425 NCS HV API Update 2 In-reply-to: <44B57AAA.8070702@sun.com> Sender: Eric.Pilmore@Sun.COM To: David Kahn Cc: FWARC , Greg Onufer Message-id: <44B58128.6060107@sun.com> MIME-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset=us-ascii Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT X-Accept-Language: en-us, en X-PMX-Version: 5.2.0.264296 References: <44B44545.6090504@sun.com> <44B57252.8080108@sun.com> <44B576DD.101@sun.com> <44B57910.5080006@sun.com> <44B57AAA.8070702@sun.com> User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; SunOS sun4u; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20050530 Status: RO Content-Length: 1420 David Kahn wrote On 07/12/06 15:41,: > > > Eric Pilmore wrote: > >>> Didn't we include 'compatible' in the bindings? >> >> >> Yes, there is a compatible already in there, SUNW,n2-cwq. >> >> Is there some kind of default behavior that if there is >> no entry in /etc/driver_aliases that it will look for >> the "name"?
