I want to make sure we don't end up in the same situation we had with some other stuff. We probably need a binding document for the how the NIU will appear in the device tree. On KT, does it show up as a root device or a pcie device? If it's a root device, then we already have the binding for the devhandle as we do the other stuff. If it's a pcie device, then what we have isn't really sufficient. It's hard to see how we're going to do this on KT without a device binding for KT's NIU. -David From sacadmin Tue Jun 24 12:12:26 2008 Received: from newsunmail1brm.central.sun.com (newsunmail1brm.Central.Sun.COM [129.147.62.245]) by sac.sfbay.sun.com (8.13.8+Sun/8.13.8) with ESMTP id m5OJCP8k022049 for ; Tue, 24 Jun 2008 12:12:26 -0700 (PDT) Received: from nwk-avmta-1.SFBay.Sun.COM (nwk-avmta-1.SFBay.Sun.COM [129.146.11.74]) by newsunmail1brm.central.sun.com (8.13.7+Sun/8.13.7/ENSMAIL,v2.2) with ESMTP id m5OJCNdD017056 for <@sunmail2sca.sfbay.sun.com:fwarc@sun.com>; Tue, 24 Jun 2008 13:12:25 -0600 (MDT) Received: from pmxchannel-daemon.nwk-avmta-1.sfbay.Sun.COM by nwk-avmta-1.sfbay.Sun.COM (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2-3.04 (built Jul 15 2005)) id <0K2Z00K1DEOOA900@nwk-avmta-1.sfbay.Sun.COM> for fwarc@sun.com (ORCPT fwarc@sun.com); Tue, 24 Jun 2008 12:12:24 -0700 (PDT) Received: from brmea-mail-2.sun.com ([192.18.98.43]) by nwk-avmta-1.sfbay.Sun.COM (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2-3.04 (built Jul 15 2005)) with ESMTP id <0K2Z00D99EOOGDA0@nwk-avmta-1.sfbay.Sun.COM> for fwarc@sun.com (ORCPT fwarc@sun.com); Tue, 24 Jun 2008 12:12:24 -0700 (PDT) Received: from fe-amer-09.sun.com ([192.18.109.79]) by brmea-mail-2.sun.com (8.13.6+Sun/8.12.9) with ESMTP id m5OJCOa2013651 for ; Tue, 24 Jun 2008 19:12:24 +0000 (GMT) Received: from conversion-daemon.mail-amer.sun.com by mail-amer.sun.com (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2-8.04 (built Feb 28 2007)) id <0K2Z00A01E5D3P00@mail-amer.sun.com> (original mail from Stephen.Ehring@Sun.COM) for fwarc@sun.com (ORCPT fwarc@sun.com); Tue, 24 Jun 2008 13:12:24 -0600 (MDT) Received: from dhcp-ubur03-184-20.East.Sun.COM ([129.148.184.20]) by mail-amer.sun.com (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2-8.04 (built Feb 28 2007)) with ESMTPSA id <0K2Z00008EO8DZC0@mail-amer.sun.com>; Tue, 24 Jun 2008 13:12:08 -0600 (MDT) Date: Tue, 24 Jun 2008 15:12:08 -0400 From: Stephen Ehring Subject: Re: FWARC/2008/402 - Niagara2 NIU Hypervisor API Extensions v2 - fast-track timeout July 1, 2008 In-reply-to: <486142EC.7020006@sun.com> Sender: Stephen.Ehring@Sun.COM To: David Kahn Cc: Narayan Venkat , Firmware Arch Message-id: <48614708.70206@sun.com> MIME-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT X-PMX-Version: 5.4.1.325704 References: <486142EC.7020006@sun.com> User-Agent: Thunderbird 2.0.0.14 (Macintosh/20080421) Status: RO Content-Length: 704 David Kahn wrote: > We probably need a binding document for the > how the NIU will appear in the device tree. > On KT, does it show up as a root device or > a pcie device? From what I understand, the NIU will appear exactly how it did with N2, but there will be two root node children (and hence 4 total "network" nodes). The devhandle is just the sun4v bus device number as defined in the sun4v bus binding. Maybe it would be more clear to replace 'devhandle' with 'sun4v device number' or 'sun4v bus device number'. This is the same as the NIU in a Niagara-2. N2 is a single socket system whereas KT is multi-socket and hence multiple NIUs. The iodevice node appears as a child of the phys_io node in the MD, and is defined by FWARC/2006/556. The device appear the same way it did on N2. The bindings for N2 will still hold true in this case. Maybe the confusion here is the use of term 'devhandle' to identify the device. -Narayan On Jun 24, 2008, at 2:54 PM, David Kahn wrote: > > I'm a bit concerned about the definition of > devhandle in the document. > > I want to make sure we don't end up in the same > situation we had with some other stuff. > > We probably need a binding document for the > how the NIU will appear in the device tree. > On KT, does it show up as a root device or > a pcie device? The sun4v bus binding already specifies what it is for children of the root node. -David From sacadmin Mon Jul 7 06:32:12 2008 Received: from sunmail2sca.sfbay.sun.com (sunmail2sca.SFBay.Sun.COM [129.145.155.234]) by sac.sfbay.sun.com (8.13.8+Sun/8.13.8) with ESMTP id m67DWCOD012950 for ; Mon, 7 Jul 2008 06:32:12 -0700 (PDT) Received: from nwk-avmta-2.sfbay.sun.com (nwk-avmta-2.SFBay.Sun.COM [129.145.155.6]) by sunmail2sca.sfbay.sun.com (8.13.7+Sun/8.13.7/ENSMAIL,v2.2) with ESMTP id m67DWCU1015231 for <@sunmail2sca.sfbay.sun.com:fwarc@sun.com>; Mon, 7 Jul 2008 06:32:12 -0700 (PDT) Received: from pmxchannel-daemon.nwk-avmta-2.sfbay.sun.com by nwk-avmta-2.sfbay.sun.com (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2-3.04 (built Jul 15 2005)) id <0K3N0040B1LOVZ00@nwk-avmta-2.sfbay.sun.com> for fwarc@sun.com (ORCPT fwarc@Sun.COM); Mon, 07 Jul 2008 06:32:12 -0700 (PDT) Received: from brmea-mail-2.sun.com ([192.18.98.43]) by nwk-avmta-2.sfbay.sun.com (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2-3.04 (built Jul 15 2005)) with ESMTP id <0K3N00FYT1LN0HD0@nwk-avmta-2.sfbay.sun.com> for fwarc@sun.com (ORCPT fwarc@Sun.COM); Mon, 07 Jul 2008 06:32:11 -0700 (PDT) Received: from fe-amer-09.sun.com ([192.18.109.79]) by brmea-mail-2.sun.com (8.13.6+Sun/8.12.9) with ESMTP id m67DWBeS013245 for ; Mon, 07 Jul 2008 13:32:11 +0000 (GMT) Received: from conversion-daemon.mail-amer.sun.com by mail-amer.sun.com (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2-8.04 (built Feb 28 2007)) id <0K3N004011K6RH00@mail-amer.sun.com> (original mail from Narayan.Venkat@Sun.COM) for fwarc@Sun.COM (ORCPT fwarc@Sun.COM); Mon, 07 Jul 2008 07:32:11 -0600 (MDT) Received: from dhcp-ubur03-180-55.East.Sun.COM ([129.148.180.55]) by mail-amer.sun.com (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2-8.04 (built Feb 28 2007)) with ESMTPSA id <0K3N00L2P1L7CY90@mail-amer.sun.com> for fwarc@Sun.COM (ORCPT fwarc@Sun.COM); Mon, 07 Jul 2008 07:32:04 -0600 (MDT) Date: Mon, 07 Jul 2008 09:31:55 -0400 From: Narayan Venkat Subject: Re: FWARC/2008/402 - Niagara2 NIU Hypervisor API Extensions v2 - fast-track timeout July 1, 2008 In-reply-to: <54771A46-F8B2-41AA-A51F-7BC673A00ADE@sun.com> Sender: Narayan.Venkat@sun.com To: Firmware Arch Cc: David Finberg , Narayan Venkat Message-id: <58965D9E-110C-4A07-9E3C-57D51CD8EA80@Sun.COM> MIME-version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Apple Mail (2.919.2) Content-type: multipart/alternative; boundary="Boundary_(ID_2JwgoAB+9/8xN/ZJJpCccA)" X-PMX-Version: 5.4.1.325704 References: <54771A46-F8B2-41AA-A51F-7BC673A00ADE@sun.com> Status: RO Content-Length: 2524 --Boundary_(ID_2JwgoAB+9/8xN/ZJJpCccA) Content-type: text/plain; delsp=yes; format=flowed; charset=US-ASCII Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT This fast-track case has timed out and is now approved. I am sponsori= ng this fast-track case for David Finberg. This case
extends the N= IU Hypervisor API for the KT processor based platforms
to support= and make use of multiple NIU devices.

The Niagara-2 NIU = Hypervisor API specification was approved under
FWARC/2006/524 and= extended by FWARC/2008/248 to support
NIU Hybrid IO.=

This case will be approved for minor/micro/patch OS binding a= nd
