This case extends both the VIO protocol and VIO MD node specifications for LDoms virtual network and switch devices in order to support jumbo frames. The VIO protocol specification was approved under FWARC/2006/195 and then modified under FWARC/2006/583, FWARC/2006/602, FWARC/2007/672, FWARC/ 2008/017, and FWARC/2008/228. The VIO MD specification was approved under FWARC/ 2006/072 and then modified under FWARC/2006/122, FWARC/2007/363, FWARC/2008/016 and FWARC/2008/228. This case will be approved for minor/micro/patch OS binding and minor/micro binding for the firmware. Case timer is set to expire on Sep 3, 2008. All of the changes are highlighted in the updated documents which can be found at: http://sac.eng/arc/FWARC/2008/553/materials/vio-protocol-update-7-diff.pdf http://sac.eng/arc/FWARC/2008/553/materials/vio-md-nodes-v7-diffs.pdf Brief description of the changes are: - Extension of the VIO protocol for virtual network and switch devices to support MTU negotiation as part of the attribute exchange as defined in sec 1.1.7.1 of the VIO protocol specification. - Addition of a new MD property to the 'virtual-device' node as defined in section 1.1.3 of VIO MD spec. The changes being ARC'd here apply to all LDoms guest OSs that are users of the VIO protocol. This includes, Solaris 10, OpenSolaris and non-Solaris OSs like Linux. > As for as the implementation of the Jumbo Frames > support in Crossbow, we have been discussing this with Nicolas > Droux(also > copied to Crossbow-core) and we have also been working with Brussels > team. > Please note, this is an OS implementation specific detail, it is not > related to the > FWARC case itself.
